John Textor comments to set alarms ringing for Sean Dyche at Everton

Sean Dyche could be looking over his shoulder at Everton after John Textor’s comments on potential future recruitment, according to Miguel Delaney.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Back Pages podcast (12 September), the Independent journalist said alarms could be ringing for Dyche if Textor wants to implement his ideas of recruitment at Goodison Park.

Delaney was speaking in the wake of Textor saying he plans to discuss the future of the club with Dyche as he edges closer to a takeover [Sky Sports News, 11 September], having entered an exclusivity period with Farhad Moshiri.

He said: “If you’re Sean Dyche, I suppose alarms are ringing – if a potential future boss is talking A; about potential recruitment, but beyond that; whether your management is in sync with the potential new owner’s idea of recruitment.”

Sean Dyche’s days are numbered if John Textor takes over Everton

As an owner of several football clubs across the globe – including one in the Premier League which is proving a sticking point in his takeover bid – Textor is no stranger to the hiring and firing of managers.

While the American’s comments suggest that he will at first be open to conversations with Dyche about how the pair can work together, his mind may be changed if the poor start to the season continues.

Textor has already sounded out potential replacements if Dyche is given the boot [Alan Nixon, 8 September], and that may be an ominous sign for the 53-year-old, who has overseen three Premier League defeats from as many games.

Dyche has undoubtedly proven his and the Toffees’ doubters wrong to keep the club in the Premier League amid points deductions and financial strife last season, but football remains a results business.

If Textor’s plans to aim higher do not involve Dyche being in post, so be it, but there’s still a long way to go before the Blues can afford not to look over their shoulders, both on and off the pitch.
