Nathan Patterson posts social media update as Everton wait on defensive cover

Nathan Patterson has updated Everton fans on social media with some training images, as he edges closer to a return to action.

The defender posted on his X account on Friday afternoon [13 September] with two photos of himself out on the grass doing light ball work, in one accompanied by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Patterson, signed from Rangers in 2022, has been sidelined since April with a thigh injury and missed Euro 2024, as Seamus Coleman and youngster Roman Dixon have operated at right-back with the team conceding 10 goals in three Premier League games.

Alongside the images, Patterson’s post was captioned with two emojis – a sand timer and a “soon” sticker, which hints that the Scotland man is soon to return.

Everton awaiting Nathan Patterson boost

In the first half of last season, Patterson was pretty much a mainstay in the Everton side, entrusted with the right-back slot by Sean Dyche.

However, the young defender could not tie down a sustained place in the team following the festive period, and would tend to come in for two or three games before dropping out.

This pattern continued until his 45 minutes at Chelsea in a dismal 6-0 defeat, his most recent outing for the Toffees.

With how the Everton defence have performed at the start of this season, however, fans are eagerly awaiting Patterson’s comeback, and have provided messages of support and encouragement on his social media post.

It could be make-or-break for the 21-cap international, as he would be backed to keep his place if Dyche’s team lift in form with his reintegration into the side; an improvement and rise in clean sheets without Patterson could make it very difficult for him to stake his claim again this season.
