John Textor torn into over ‘hurtful’ Sean Dyche comments in ‘nonsense’ Everton verdict

Martin O’Neill has slammed John Textor for his “hurtful” comments around Sean Dyche’s future at Everton, labelling it “absolute nonsense”.

The American billionaire who is in talks with Farhad Moshiri over a takeover at Goodison Park has admitted he is eager to sit down with the manager to see if he could adapt to a different style of play [Sky Sports News, 11 September].

While Dyche has shrugged off Textor’s comments himself, talkSPORT pundit O’Neill was quick to question why the prospective owner even voiced his opinion before has even acquired the Toffees.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (13 September, 12:55) he said: “If I’d have been in Sean’s position, I’d have said the exact same thing.

“Those are really hurtful comments from someone who doesn’t actually own the football club yet. This is the whole point. I don’t know if he’ll be in there in a fortnight’s time or a couple of months, know there’s this deadline of 30 November.

“Sean Dyche, with the respect to Everton, I don’t think they would have survived last season had Sean Dyche not been at the club last season.

“They have got off to a poor start this season and managers come under pressure almost immediately. But comments like that are as if Sean Dyche is waiting for a 6ft 7inch centre-forward to play and hit them.

“It’s absolute nonsense. Would I have answered the question? Yeah, I would have wanted to answer that.”

Will Everton and John Textor sack Sean Dyche at Goodison Park?

While the most optimistic of Everton supporters would have to admit that Dyche’s football so far this season has been nowhere near good enough, O’Neill’s comments do make a lot of sense.

Without the former Burnley manager, the Blues simply would not still be in the Premier League and because of that he deserves some respect from the supporters, the current ownership and even any prospective buyers.

For Textor to already be discussing his position in the public domain without even holding talks with Dyche himself does seem unnecessarily hurtful, especially when the Toffees are already going through a hard time.

Hopefully, the Blues will manage to turn their fortunes around on the pitch and get back to winning ways after the international break.

A win or two in the Premier League would massively help Dyche get the supporters and those above him back onside.
