Calvert-Lewin leaves Jamie O’Hara stunned in all the wrong ways in latest Everton loss

Dominic Calvert-Lewin left Jamie O’Hara stunned after his miss for Everton in the defeat against Aston Villa.

The Toffees threw away a second 2-0 lead in as many games as goals from the 27-year-old and Dwight McNeil put them ahead in the first half.

Ollie Watkins got the Villans back in the game before Calvert-Lewin had a chance to restore the away side’s two-goal advantage.

The striker stuttered and eventually was tackled by Ezri Konsa, which left O’Hara bemused live on talkSPORT on 14 September (6:47pm).

He said: “That’s an unbelievable miss from Calvert-Lewin. What’s he doing?”

It has to be said that at times at Villa Park, the former England international was electric and had Pau Torres on the ropes throughout.

The former Sheffield United man was a frequent outlet for the Toffees, which allowed the likes of McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye to get into the game.

He was arguably let down by his teammates, which meant his energy was sapped as the second half went on.

This could be a reason behind his failed one-on-one with Emi Martinez, which saw the forward take too long before eventually being tackled.

This performance almost sums up Calvert-Lewin’s career in recent years, which will be as frustrating to him, Sean Dyche and the supporters.

Although he couldn’t make his second half chances count, on another day the Toffees star takes home a match ball with three or more goals.

If he can carry improve on his finishing in upcoming games against Southampton and Leicester City, Everton will have a positive chance of securing some points.
