Sean Dyche job update at Everton after another loss v Southampton

Everton insiders are calm over Sean Dyche’s future despite the EFL Cup defeat to Southampton, according to the Guardian.

The newspaper reported on 17 September that although Dyche could come under increasing pressure if the Toffees lose their next Premier League match at Leicester, that’s currently not the case inside the club.

Everton lost 6-5 on penalties to Southampton following a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park on Tuesday 17 September, a fifth defeat across six matches in all competitions so far this season.

Is Sean Dyche on borrowed time at Everton?

While those inside the club may be keeping calm on Dyche’s future at Everton, the pressure will certainly be cranked up a few notches if the Toffees lose their fifth straight match of the new season.

Facing a Leicester side who like the Blues, are winless so far this campaign, gives Dyche a chance to lift his side off the bottom of the table to potentially leapfrog the Foxes in fifteenth.

However, after yet another below-par display in the EFL Cup – against a side they’re also battling against relegation with – optimism amongst the fanbase won’t exactly be high and expectant of victory.

The fact is though, the Toffees need to start winning games sooner rather than later if they’re to avoid being dragged into the mire of a dogfight which threatened to engulf them last season.

With the takeover saga still looming in the background [Sky Sports News, 11 September], the onus is on Dyche to steady the on-field ship as best he can, and prevent the club’s future being plunged into even more uncertainty.

In other Everton news, one journalist gave Toffees fans a possible timeframe on when the club’s takeover could be completed.
