John Textor claims he’s got ‘ridiculously wealthy’ backers in solo Everton takeover bid

Kieran Maguire has revealed that John Textor could receive investment from Aliya Capital to help bankroll a deal to buy Everton.

The investment adviser has offered its investors the opportunity to commit around £19million towards the American businessman’s bid to acquire the Toffees [Bloomberg, 13 September].

Speaking on The Price Of Football on 19 September, finance expert Maguire understands that the 58-year-old has built on a relationship in Brazil to bring in investment.

He said: “He’s been talking to business partners, one of which is called Aliya Capital who are ridiculously wealthy, but why would they be interested in buying Everton?

“It turns out that he’s met somebody from Aliya Partners in Brazil and perhaps he thinks there’s a relationship there.

“I wouldn’t even say that it’s two steps forward and one step back, it’s one step forward and one step back in regards to Textor.”

John Textor to get investment from Aliya for Everton bid

While a deal to buy the club is still obviously fraught with complications for Textor, the prospect of having wealthy investors behind him can only help the American’s cause.

There is still a major sticking point given that Textor still owns shares in Crystal Palace and must sell those before he can move on under Premier League rules.

This may prove to take some time but having Aliya in his corner may only prove to help the businessman on his journey to become owner at Goodison Park.

Considering the firm helped Elon Musk purchase Twitter (BBC Sport), supporters can rest assured that there is some serious money involved.

Farhad Moshiri remains in charge in Merseyside for now but it is absolutely no secret that he desperately wants to find a buyer for his stake in the club.

This is a positive update for Textor and his pursuit of the club but there are various hoops that still need to be jumped through.
