Neal Maupay decision slammed as disgusting after Everton transfer
Alexy Bosetti has joked that he was disgusted by Neal Maupay joining Marseille on loan from Everton in the transfer window.
In an interview with L’Equipe (21 September), ex-Nice forward Bosetti, now playing for Annecy in Ligue 2, had conflicted emotions over Maupay’s switch late in the transfer window.
Maupay left Goodison Park for Stade Velodrome on 30 August and will join Marseille permanently in 2025, but given OM’s rivalry with Nice, Bosetti was disappointed with the 28-year-old.
Asked about the transfer, Bosetti said: “I prefer not to talk about Neal, because I love him too much as a human being.
“He wanted to come back – I am disappointed, because I would have loved to see him in Nice. Seeing him there (at Marseille), I am disgusted.”
Everton will be happy with Neal Maupay transfer
There was certainly a long to-do list at Goodison Park at the start of the 2024 summer transfer window, and though several boxes remain unchecked, getting Maupay out of the door was eventually achieved.
The French striker has not played a competitive minute for the Toffees since the start of the 2023/24 season, after which he was shipped off on a largely successful season-long loan to Brentford.

Despite making 31 appearances and scoring eight goals for the club at which he made his name in English football, Maupay’s loan deal was not made permanent by the Bees.
Maupay therefore returned to Merseyside for pre-season training, but with his first-team prospects looking slim to say the least, all parties will be delighted with his late-window move to Marseille.
The 28-year-old has already scored for his new club ahead of a £8.4million permanent transfer next summer [The Athletic, 29 August], which will bring an end to the sorry saga that has been Maupay’s time at Goodison Park.
