Abdoulaye Doucoure does not understand what was said about Everton star
Abdoulaye Doucoure admitted Everton attacker Iliman Ndiaye is a “top player” but believes the two are “so different” despite recent comparisons.
Ndiaye was one of many Everton attacking additions during the summer window and has made a strong impression since arriving at Goodison Park.
The Senegal international has scored two goals across all competitions while being used out wide and in attacking midfield.
Speaking about Ndiaye’s impact on the squad, Doucoure admitted he doesn’t understand why the two are compared as if they play the same role.
“Iliman is a top player. He can play left, play 10,” he said to the Liverpool ECHO (23 September).
“Some people try to compare us but we are so different so I don’t understand why people try to make this competition between me and him.
“I want to keep playing with him. He’s a top player and is going to give us a lot this season.
“He’s very skilful, can keep the ball and score goals. Jesper (Lindstrom) played very well too so it’s nice competition and he will give us more choice.”
Everton need to build around Iliman Ndiaye
Of all Everton’s summer transfers, the arrival of Ndiaye is arguably their strongest piece of business from the window.
The former Sheffield United man joined Sean Dyche’s men for a fee worth around £16.9million [Fabrizio Romano, 26 June], which feels like a very modest sum for a player of his calibre.
While the Merseyside outfit’s start to the Premier League season hasn’t been the best, the Senegal international has been a shining light for Dyche and has helped offer options both centrally and wide.
The attacking midfielder has been a perfect link to the midfield and attack when called upon and it feels like the club would be far worse off without him within their ranks.

Despite Ndiaye’s contribution, the club have found themselves at 19th in the Premier League which has majorly increased the pressure on Dyche in recent weeks [HITC, 21 September].
Everton need to find a way to turn around their fortunes or they could be dragged into yet another Premier League relegation battle.
