Everton confirm takeover in historical new announcement at Goodison Park
Everton have confirmed they have reached a takeover agreement with the Friedkin Group in a “historical” update, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The transfer specialist reported via X on Monday (23 September) that Farhad Moshiri’s Blue Heaving Holdings has reached an agreement with the Friedkin Group to purchase a controlling stake at Goodison Park.
Although the deal is still subject to approval from the Premier League, the Football Association and the Financial Conduct Authority, the agreement between the two parties is a huge step towards the completion of a takeover on Merseyside [Everton, 23 September].
Is Farhad Moshiri completing Goodison Park exit amid Everton takeover update?
This deal may not be completed done and dusted at this moment in time, but this is a historic and major step in the right direction for the Toffees that suggests the Moshiri era at Goodison Park is nearly over.
Despite the Freidkin Group’s decision to walk away from the deal earlier in 2024, there was always a genuine chance that they could return to talks at Goodison Park with an agreement never entirely ruled out by the Toffees [The Telegraph, 17 September].
Of course, Everton have been at this stage before with 777 Partners. The difference this time is the fact that Dan Friedkin and his group don’t appear to have anywhere near as many skeletons locked away in their closet.
Hopefully, the Premier League, FA and FCA’s checks will be nothing more than a box-ticking exercise this time around. On the face of it, it doesn’t seem as though there should be any bumps on the road to completing this deal.
For the first time in a long while, Everton fans may just be able to get a little bit excited about the future of their football club, even if results on the field have still left more than a bit to be desired.
