Dan Friedkin ‘awful’ verdict emerges amid Everton takeover development

ESPN journalist Gabriel Marcotti has issued the good and the bad as the Friedkin Group are set to buy Everton.

The Toffees announced on 23 September that Dan Friedkin had reached an agreement to complete the takeover of the club by buying Farhad Moshiri’s stake.

Marcotti has stated that the bad of the Texas-based group is that there’s a constant turnover at their clubs and their communications are not ideal.

On the other hand, the good is that they invest a lot of money and do not pile up debt and if they are to lose money, it’s their own and not money they’ve taken on loan.

He wrote on X: “Friedkins at Everton (if approved):

“BAD: They made some really poor choices, comms is awful and there is a constant turnover in personnel at the club (meaning sporting director, CEO, executives etc more than coaches).

“GOOD: They invest their own money and they invest a lot. They don’t rack up debt, they actually have money and, ultimately, if they lose money, it’s their own money.”

Everton do not need constant turnover under Dan Friedkin

The Toffees certainly do not need a constant turnover in personnel as that’s precisely what has happened in recent years.

They’ve gone from Carlo Ancelotti to Rafa Benitez to Frank Lampard to Sean Dyche – highlighting a complete lack of identity.

Marcel Brands is to blame for it along with Farhad Moshiri and the Friedkins have a challenge to impart their philosophy to the club.

The positives are their use of money – something that has traumatised Everton in the recent past – leading to point deductions.

Given the new stadium, there will be opportunities to recoup their investment and make a lot of money if handled correctly.

It remains to be seen what kind of owners they turn out to be, but right now, the next big step is to get approval from the Premier League.
