Friedkin Group face Everton takeover hurdles after ‘Huge’ takeover announcement
The Friedkin Group still have a “couple of hurdles to get through” before they can complete their Everton takeover, according to football finance expert Dan Plumley.
The Toffees confirmed on Monday (23 September) that the Roma owners had reached a historic agreement with Blue Heaven Holdings to acquire Farhad Moshiri’s controlling stake at Goodison Park.
Although the deal still has to be approved by the Premier League, the FA and the Financial Conduct Authority, Plumley insists that a full takeover is closer to completion than it has ever been before.
“It’s been a long time hasn’t it,” Plumley told Goodison News.
“We have said this time and time again, whenever a takeover has been close we’ve said it feels like a big moment and I guess we’re there again.
“The difference this time is we’ve seen this particular ownership group nearly get over the line and then they pulled out for a variety of reasons and now they’re back in again.
“It’s not unusual and that does happen in takeovers as you often see the same investors come back around.
“Of course, the checks and balances have to be done with the FCA and the Premier League, so there are still a couple of hurdles here to get through.
“But it does feel like given the nature of this group and where they have been with Everton before that this feels like it is probably closer to it being completed than we ever have been.
“Ultimately, that is huge news for the club and I’m sure as well huge news for the fans.”
Will the Friedkin Group complete Everton takeover?
While there is still some work to be done before the Friedkin Group acquires the Toffees, all the signs suggest that this deal should be completed sooner rather than later to bring a new era to Goodison Park.

As Plumley suggests, this is the closest anyone has got to actually purchasing Moshiri’s stake on Merseyside. Unless something changes drastically, there is no reason that any necessary approval should be granted.
