Everton stance on Nick Pope transfer emerges amid Jordan Pickford update

Everton are not interested in Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet wrote online (24 September), “TEAMtalk sources say the Toffees have no interest in (Jordan) Pickford’s England teammate.”

It comes after Alan Nixon reported via his Patreon (15 September) that Pope was in Sean Dyche’s sights, with Jordan Pickford’s place under threat.

However, TEAMtalk reports that suggestions Pickford could leave Goodison Park “are wide of the mark.”

Everton to keep hold of Jordan Pickford amid Nick Pope speculation?

Replacing Pickford with Pope wouldn’t make any sense for the Toffees.

The Everton number-one hasn’t necessarily been at his best this season, it is fair to say. However, down the years he has been one of the top performers at Goodison Park.

Therefore, to give up on him after a poor start to the season – which hasn’t even been entirely his fault – wouldn’t be wise.

In addition, it would no doubt cost big money for the Toffees to lure Pope to the club from Newcastle.

Money is something which Everton don’t necessarily have a lot of right now. Therefore, to spend some of the precision cash they do have on a position which isn’t even a priority would be daft.

Pope doesn’t even start for England over Pickford. As a result, it would be strange if he were to be signed to for a reasonable fee to start over him at club level.
