Paul Scholes makes new Everton relegation admission in Sean Dyche exit verdict

Paul Scholes has admitted he expects Everton to avoid relegation from the Premier League if they stick with Sean Dyche.

The Toffees are stuck in the relegation zone after a disappointing start to the Premier League season which has seen Dyche’s side fail to win any of their opening five matches.

Although the Blues have conceded too many goals in the opening weeks of the campaign, Scholes believes the attacking quality in Dyche’s ranks will be enough to avoid the drop this term.

Speaking on The Overlap on Wednesday (25 September, 50:50) he said: “I always think about teams who are in the bottom areas of the league if you can’t score goals you’re knackered.

“I just think Everton will be fine because you’ve shown you can score goals. Ok, you have let a few in that you probably shouldn’t have done and had good leads in games and messed up and lost points but I always think you’ve got a chance if you’ve got goals.

“You look at teams like Southampton, I don’t see where the goals are coming from. Ipswich I thought would score more goals.

“I always think you’ve got a chance and Sean Dyche he’s an experienced manager. I think if you do stick with him, then I 100 per cent think you’ll stay in the league.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche amid Goodison Park developments?

As Scholes suggests, it is rarely a poor defence that sees teams relegated from the Premier League rather a lack of goals at the top end of the pitch and it doesn’t seem as though that is an issue for the Toffees.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has started the season in impressive form, Iliman Ndiaye has hit the ground running in Everton colours and a Dyche side will always carry a genuine threat from set-pieces.

If the Blues can find a way to shut up shop defensively over the coming weeks and months, they should have no issue climbing out of the bottom three and towards the midtable positions, but they have to improve at the back.

The imminent return of Jarrad Branthwaite will of course be a major boost. The Englishman was one of the Toffees’ best players last term and having him fit and available should only help Dyche’s side.

Hopefully, this weekend’s clash with Crystal Palace will see the Blues pick up that first league win of the season to potentially climb out of the bottom three.
