Chris Sutton shares instant Sean Dyche admission after Everton win v Crystal Palace
Chris Sutton has hit back at anyone who doubted Sean Dyche after Everton beat Crystal Palace 2-1 on Saturday (28 September).
The Toffees have finally secured their first Premier League win of the new campaign, beating Oliver Glasner’s winless team at Goodison Park, even despite going a goal down to Marc Guehi.
Dwight McNeil inspired the comeback, scoring twice in the space of seven second-half minutes to lift Dyche’s team out of the relegation zone, likely easing some of the pressure on the manager’s shoulders.
Taking to X on Saturday (28 September), Sutton wrote: “All the Sean Dyche doubters will be quiet tonight…”
Everton finally claim first victory of new Premier League season
Fans have been in full voice about Dyche potentially being sacked, and rightly so, after five matches without a win, especially considering the back-to-back 3-2 losses to Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
Those voices have only increased since Dan Friedkin’s agreement to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s majority share at Goodison Park was announced, but he may have just bought himself more time.
One victory against a team also without a win is not enough to make Dyche completely safe, but it will certainly take some of the pressure off the next few games.
The Toffees have actually played some very delicate football this season but all that hard work has been undone by slack defending, though this was not the case against Palace.
Jarrad Branthwaite’s long-awaited return from injury may have had a lot to do with that, adding a much more positive mindset to the backline, with Michael Keane dropping to the bench.
With matches against Newcastle United, Ipswich Town and Fulham, the Toffees will need to take inspiration from this victory and claim as many points as possible.
They may be out of the dropzone for now, but they could just as easily slip back into it if they cannot build on the performance at Goodison Park.
