Lineker and Walcott rave over ‘incredible’, ‘beautiful’ Everton moment v Crystal Palace
Gary Lineker and Theo Walcott were wowed by Dwight McNeil’s equalising goal for Everton in their 2-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday.
McNeil’s second-half brace secured Sean Dyche’s side their elusive first Premier League win of the season, coming from behind against Oliver Glasner’s struggling Palace side.
The victory moves the Toffees out of the drop zone after McNeil scored two very complimented goals.
The first, spoken about by the duo on BBC’s Match of the Day [28 September, 44:47], saw Walcott describe it: “If you give a player with a left foot like this that much space… he’s done it before.”
Host Lineker simply responded: “Beautiful.”
Former Toffee Walcott added: “It’s an incredible goal.”
Dwight McNeil steers Everton to victory
Everton fans will be delighted this weekend, but more so relieved – having given up the leads they have done in recent weeks, they would not have known the job was at all finished until that final whistle blew.
Too many opponents have kicked the Toffees while they have been down in the recent past, and for once, fans in blue will have experienced the other side of that when coming from behind to beat a Palace side who not many expected to struggle as much as they are at the moment.
McNeil is a player with quality whose inconsistency sometimes lets him down, but Saturday was a game for him to flourish and can be looked back on later in the season as a springboard.
There are winnable fixtures coming up for Dyche, who has known all about the skill McNeil can bring for several years and if he can get players like that firing, Everton should find themselves in a healthier position.
Next up, however, is a tricky test against a Newcastle United side who held Manchester City in Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.
