Everton fans may not forgive Jesper Lindstrom, claims pundit

Michael Ball believes Everton fans will not forgive Jesper Lindstrom if he keeps doing what he did v Crystal Palace on 28 September.

The Toffees picked up a 2-1 victory at Goodison Park but the summer signing endured a disappointing outing and he made his frustration evident on a few occasions.

The Danish winger was an isolated figure out wide for the hosts and he wasn’t pleased with how things were panning out.

Ball told the Liverpool Echo on 30 September: “It feels like we’re not all singing from the same hymn sheet. We saw the disappointment from Jesper Lindstrom not having the best of games but while I get that and it happens, he needs help.

“He was getting frustrated because he was isolated. When he received the ball, he had no midfielder asking for it, no striker round the corner to pass to while Ashley Young was 20-30 yards too deep to support.

“Yes he reacted when he lost the ball, waving his arms up, but that’s a message to his team-mates to go and help him. It’s a learning curve for him though that the Everton fans won’t forgive you if you act like that.

“We can all have poor games when things don’t go for you, but show a reaction. Wave your hands, scream and shout, after you’ve won the ball back.”

Jesper Lindstrom is still adapting to life at Everton and must be given time

Lindstrom’s frustration during the game against Palace can be attributed to his adjustment period within a new team and league.

As a summer signing, the 24-year-old’s eagerness to make an impact in the Premier League is palpable, yet his isolation on the pitch highlights a broader tactical or team cohesion issue rather than just individual performance.

His visible frustration, while understandable as a sign of his competitive spirit and desire to succeed, might not align with the traditional expectations of the Goodison Park faithful.

Sean Dyche, known for his discipline and tactical acumen, addressed this with the Dane, emphasising the importance of maintaining composure and contributing positively to team dynamics, even in challenging situations.

Lindstrom’s reaction might be a learning moment, showing him the need to adapt his approach, both in expressing discontent and in integrating more seamlessly into the Toffees’, to win over fans and meet the league’s demands.
