Oliver Glasner fears mooted at Crystal Palace after Goodison Park loss v Everton

Alex Crook admits he fears for Crystal Palace and Oliver Glasner following the Eagles’ defeat to Everton at Goodison Park.

Sean Dyche’s side picked up their first three points of the Premier League season with a 2-1 win against Palace on Saturday (28 September) thanks to an impressive brace from Dwight McNeil.

While the win at Goodison has eased the pressure on Dyche, talkSPORT journalist and pundit Crook admits that he is worried about Glasner because of Palace’s history of sacking managers early on in seasons.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access podcast (30 September, 43:05) he said: “It’s been coming when you look at their performances.

“They’ve not been as bad as their performances suggest and they showed a bit of grit and determination in this game having fallen behind to come back and win.

“Brilliant first goal from Dwight McNeil, that was probably my favourite goal of the weekend and I would imagine there are better times ahead now for Everton.

“The league table certainly looks a lot more palatable with their first win on the board and the fact other teams are still struggling for points below them.

“You fear a bit for Palace and Oliver Glasner don’t you when you look at their start to the season. Steve Parish is not the most patient of owners, is he? There’s a history of Palace starting seasons badly and the managers getting the old heave-ho.

“I’m not saying Glasner is in the camp just yet, but I think he might need some wins pretty quickly.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche at Goodison Park?

There has been so much talk around Dyche and his position at Goodison Park so far this season. While nobody wants to see managers sacked, it is almost a relief that the talk around a manager’s position is about an opposing team instead.

Palace and Parish have proven to be more ruthless than the Toffees in the past. The Eagles’ board are more than willing to pull the trigger on a manager if they don’t feel they’re going to get the best out of the players at their disposal.

There is still a chance that Dyche could exit Goodison Park before the season is up. The Friedkin Group’s impending takeover has certainly increased the pressure on the former Burnley boss as they look to put their stamp on Merseyside.

While the Toffees keep winning games, however, the decision-makers at Everton are unlikely to be rushing to make a change in the dugout.

All Dyche and his side can do is keep finding a way to pick up points in the league.
