Dan Friedkin told to ‘provide some answers’ after recent Everton takeover developments
Michael Ball has told Dan Friedkin to “provide some answers” after recent Everton takeover developments at Goodison Park.
The Toffees confirmed in September that the Friedkin Group had reached a historical agreement with Farhad Moshiri to acquire the current Blues owner’s controlling stake in the football club [Fabrizio Romano, 23 September].
While the takeover still needs to be approved by the Premier League, FA and Financial Conduct Authority, Liverpool Echo pundit Ball has urged Friedkin to learn from Moshiri’s mistakes to allow fans to “dream again”.
Writing for the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday (1 October) he said: “I think the way Dan Friedkin runs Roma though, he lets the football people get on with the football business and trusts in his employees having brought in the personnel who he sees fit to carry out those roles.
“Under Moshiri, nobody really took accountability, whether it was sporting directors to managers or even the owner or chairman.
“It felt like a case of ‘too many cooks’ but nobody really seemed to put their hand up when things went wrong and for me, that was the downfall of Everton Football Club.
“Hopefully, Friedkin can take all that on board, learn from the mistakes of the previous regime and provide some answers so we can all dream again.”
When will Dan Friedkin complete Everton takeover at Goodison Park?
For the first time in a long time, there is a feeling of hope and optimism around Goodison Park again and it is only natural that pundits and fans alike want this new era to begin as soon as possible.
However, fans have to remember that it isn’t not going to be an instantaneous switch once the takeover is approved by the relevant authorities as there is an awful lot of work to be done by the powers at be on Merseyside.
The Friedkin’s previous work at Roma does suggest that they have what it takes to run a football club successfully and there is no reason that the American owners cannot do the same with the Toffees.

But it isn’t going to be a quick fix. There are years of Moshiri’s poor management to undo and getting the Blues back on course is going to take time and effort from everyone involved in the football club.
Hopefully, in time Friedkin will allow the Toffees to believe again as Ball has suggested. As long as the new owner avoids making the same mistakes as Moshiri, he will be a popular figure among supporters.
