Dwight McNeil could play for Barcelona or Real Madrid after what he did for Everton

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Dwight McNeil could have played for Barcelona or Real Madrid after his performance for Everton in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace.

The 24-year-old became the hero at Goodison Park on Saturday [28 September] as his brace handed the Toffees their first win of the Premier League season.

Speaking for talkSPORT in his Team of the Week, Agbonlahor admitted that pace was the only thing holding the winger back from those astonishing heights.

He said: “If he had pace, McNeil I think he’d be playing at Real Madrid or Barcelona because his left foot is a wand, he can find a pass, he can strike a ball.

“That goal he scored, his first goal is becoming a trademark goal now from McNeil. Give him time and he will hit that top corner, his second goal hits the target, always hits the target McNeil and he’s a real special player.”

Everton need to build around Dwight McNeil

While it is a stretch to imagine McNeil plying his trade at either of the La Lia giants, his form for Everton at the start of the season has been sensational.

His goals have single-handedly given the Blues their first three points of the season and have bought Sean Dyche more time at Goodison Park with speculation regarding his future increasing with each passing week.

McNeil has three goals and two assists in six Premier League appearances, he has been a shining light for the Toffees in a season of utter disappointment.

Dyche finds himself in a situation where each match is a must-win for his side and, with Newcastle United travelling to Goodison Park on Saturday [5 October], the boss will be relying on McNeil to continue his stellar form against the Magpies.

The trio of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Iliman Ndiaye, and McNeil picks itself, however, Everton are facing a selection dilemma on the right flank. Jasper Lindstrom has struggled to impress on Merseyside with calls for Jack Harrison to replace the Napoli loanee on the weekend [Chris Beesley].

McNeil is thriving in his newfound role behind the striker, a move Dyche should be lauded for as the forward has quickly established himself as the most important player for the Toffees this season.
