Dele Alli hit by new injury as Everton developments drop from Finch Farm

Dele Alli has suffered a setback in his injury recovery as he continues to work with Everton on a long-term injury, according to Joe Thomas.

The Liverpool Echo journalist reported via his personal X account on Thursday (3 October) that the 28-year-old has picked up a minor muscle strain in his recovery work at Finch Farm.

The issue is said to not be linked to a groin operation which was the cause of the former Tottenham man’s original injury problem.

There was a hope that the Toffees could help the attacking midfielder back to fitness and potentially get the best out of him.

His contract situation has been a talking point given that, as it stands, he is a free agent while remaining on Merseyside.

The ex-MK Dons starlet has been training with Sean Dyche’s side since his deal ended at Goodison to continue his rehabilitation, and it appears there is a space left in their Premier League squad for him [The Athletic].

Kevin Thelwell has made it clear in the past that Alli would be welcomed back with open arms [BBC Sport, 20 September], which is a sentiment backed by supporters.

As a result, it will be disappointing for everyone associated with the club to hear the news that he has suffered a setback.

The former England international is clearly putting in the work to build back up to full fitness and fans will be willing him on so they can see the best version of the star they know he can be in the future.
