Dele Alli retirement decision speculated after latest setback at Everton

Bryan King has speculated that a decision could soon be made on whether or not Dele Alli retires after his latest setback at Everton.

The ex-Goodison scout believes a decision will need to be made soon on the 28-year-old’s future.

Alli’s contract with Everton expired on 30 June. However, he continues to train at Finch Farm with the club planning on offering him a new deal should he prove his fitness (Joe Thomas via Royal Blue on YouTube, 4 October, 19:00).

However, he recently suffered a fresh setback as he continues his recovery from a long-term injury issue (via Joe Thomas on X, 3 October).

And King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – is concerned that this setback might prove to be the final straw for Alli.

“He’s picking up injuries along the way, which is the last thing he would want,” King said.

“Someone will have to make a decision soon. Is it worth him coming back or should he retire? I think Everton have been very loyal in assisting him try to get his fitness back.

“It is amazing, all that talent and the fees being brandished, it has all been left by the wayside. He needs to play a game, when is he going to play? It has been a long time.

“If there isn’t movement soon then I think perhaps he will be forced to retire. At the moment, he doesn’t look any closer to playing than he did a year ago.”

Dele Alli to decide on retirement after latest setback at Everton?

Everybody connected with football will be desperate to see the player make a return.

At one time he was one of the most exciting young players in European football. Therefore, to see him retire before turning 30 would be a huge shame.

Should he find a way to return to at least half of his previous best, it would be a huge boost to the Premier League and particularly Everton.
