Iliman Ndiaye blows Jamie Carragher away after what he did in Everton v Newcastle United, ‘wow’
Jamie Carragher was left awestruck after Iliman Ndiaye produced moment of magic for Everton against Newcastle United on Saturday (5 October).
Speaking on Sky Sports Football (5 October, 5:40pm), Carragher couldn’t believe that Ndiaye had managed to clear Bruno Guimaraes’ volley off the goal-line following an early Newcastle corner.
The Brazilian’s strike across the face of goal had beaten Jordan Pickford, but Ndiaye’s presence saw the ball strike him on the calf and spin behind for another set-piece in the 0-0 draw at Goodison Park.
“How has he kept that out? I don’t even think he knows,” Carragher said.
“Ndiaye has made a brilliant start going forward, to his Everton career, but what a stop that is – wow!”
Iliman Ndiaye rescues Everton early on against Newcastle
After a closely-fought 0-0 draw which featured everything but a goal at Goodison Park, it’s worth wondering how different an afternoon it could have been if not for Ndiaye’s presence on the line.
His goal-line clearance coming less than 10 minutes into proceedings on Merseyside and things could have taken a much-different turn had the visitors opened the scoring early on.

Jordan Pickford’s penalty save later in the first half was undoubtedly the high point for the Toffees – particularly given their former player Anthony Gordon was the man to step up and miss it for Newcastle.
Ndiaye’s creative brilliance going forward – as referenced by Carragher – was somewhat stunted in a game which saw both sides lacking when it came to the final pass, shot or cross.
However, a first clean sheet of the season at the other end is a massive building block for Sean Dyche’s side, and with a solid foundation being laid, Ndiaye’s time in attack will surely come again soon.
In other Everton news, the club’s continued faith in Dyche was lauded by one ex-Toffees winger before the match.
