Everton and Chelsea play huge role amid Manchester City-Premier League development

Everton, Newcastle and Chelsea served as witnesses for Manchester City as they won their battle with the Premier League, according to Martyn Ziegler.

The Times journalist clarified Mark Goldbridge’s statement as Nottingham Forest voted with City but did not get involved with the APT case.

This comes after the Times reported on 7 October that rules governing commercial deals between clubs and related companies were declared unlawful, handing a win to the Citizens.

Everton appear to vote against Premier League rather than for Manchester City

The Premier League’s inconsistent handling of club reprimands has fostered an environment where clubs might unite against perceived unfair treatment, as seen in Manchester City’s legal victory.

This inconsistency, particularly in financial regulation enforcement, has bred distrust among clubs towards the Premier League’s governance.

Everton, Newcastle, Chelsea and others aligning with Manchester City against the Premier League’s rules on commercial deals exemplify a broader dissatisfaction with how rules are applied across clubs.

This lack of uniformity in rule enforcement creates a scenario where clubs, regardless of direct involvement like the Toffees, might vote against the Premier League’s interests not necessarily to favour City, but to challenge rules that could affect any club’s operations or finances.

They still feel they were not fairly treated with the points deductions last season and now the Citizens getting off scot-free is a clear example of that.

There needs to be a complete overhaul of the rules for there to be uniformity but that does not seem to be on the cards.
