Everton must reignite interest in Arthur Melo after what his agent said

Everton were linked with several players in the 2024/25 summer transfer window.

Several of the club’s top targets were landed during a busy period, though – inevitably – several slipped through the net.

The likes of £15.6million man Iliman Ndiaye [Fabrizio Romano, 3 July] and Orel Mangala have both been stellar additions but there’s no denying that things could have gone better for Sean Dyche’s men.

Their midfield has been a particular weak point this term with Idrissa Gueye often being way off the pace.

Which is why it might be time to reconsider a move for out-of-favour Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, whose agent said in quotes reported by Fabrizio Romano that they need to “find a solution” for the Brazilian’s future, in January.

“We need to find a solution, he’s never playing and it’s a pity,” Federico Pastorello was quoted as saying.

“We spoke to Olympique Marseille, he could be interesting for Roberto de Zerbi with his quality skills.

“It’s not an easy one due to extra-UE players rule, but we will see”.

Arthur Melo would be a stellar addition for Everton

Throughout the summer window, the midfielder was consistently linked with a return to Merseyside [TuttoSport, 17 June].

His last stint in England with Liverpool didn’t quite go to plan but his performances for Fiorentina last season showed there’s still a solid player in there.

He played a total of 48 times for the Serie A side last term and contributed to a total of six goals. His natural position is that of defensive midfield so he’d slot right into Dyche’s team alongside Tim Iroegbunam or Mangala.

Arthur is a naturally defensive-minded player but his ability to attack has been made evident on more than one occasion throughout his career.

This is all speculation at the moment but as a “lucrative fee” wasn’t required in the summer [GiveMeSport, 17 July], an even lower amount could likely secure the services of the Brazil international in January.

His addition would help solidify the Merseyside outfit’s midfield ranks and perhaps bolster their chances of retaining their Premier League status this season.
