Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit verdict emerges at Everton amid Juventus transfer links

Joe Thomas has admitted he expects there to be competition for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s signature amid links with Juventus.

The European giants are reportedly interested in securing the England international’s services [TuttoJuve, 15 October], with his future at Goodison Park unclear as he enters the final month of his contract with the Toffees.

Although Liverpool Echo journalist Thomas expects plenty of clubs to hold an interest in Calvert-Lewin, he has urged supporters to treat links at this stage of the season with “a lot of caution”.

Speaking on the Royal Blue YouTube channel (16 October) he said: “I think just expect more of this the closer that Christmas gets.

“I think it is fair to say the Italian press can be quite loose when it comes to transfer rumours, there’s a lot of speculation so treat anything like this with a lot of caution at the moment.

“Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a name that is going to be easy for people to discuss and have in headlines because we know that he is a talented striker and goalscorer who is out of contract with Everton at the end of the season and therefore available for a free and could sign pre-contract terms with a European club.

“So expect lots and lots of this. I do think there will be competition for Calvert-Lewin’s signature.”

Will Dominic Calvert-Lewin exit Everton amid Juventus transfer rumours at Goodison Park?

As Thomas suggests, the speculation around Calvert-Lewin’s future at Goodison Park is entirely a product of the fact that his contract on Merseyside is set to expire next summer.

If the England international was tied down to a long-term deal with a massive release clause, clubs like Juventus simply wouldn’t be linked with a move for his services as they likely couldn’t afford the transfer fee.

Unless a new contract is agreed before the end of November, the speculation is only going to grow and grow in the run-up to the January transfer window, especially with a pre-contract agreement now an option.

The Toffees should be doing everything in their power to nip this in the bud by agreeing a new deal with the forward. While Calvert-Lewin has been reluctant to put pen to paper on a contract at this stage, the right offer would surely change his mind.

Hopefully, a resolution can be found sooner rather than later.
