Everton tipped to sign new full-back Elias Jelert after £7.5m transfer

Everton have been mooted as a potential future destination for Galatasaray star Elias Jelert by Tom Collomosse.

Writing in his column on The Daily Mail website (16 October), the journalist suggested that Everton, as well as West Ham United and Ipswich Town, could pursue a move for the Denmark international.

This is despite the 21-year-old only joining Galatasaray from Copenhagen for £7.5million ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Everton could do with signing Elias Jelert

On paper, it may not look like the Merseyside-based club are in need of a right-back, as they have Seamus Coleman, Nathan Patterson, Ashley Young and Roman Dixon in their ranks.

However, they could certainly benefit from signing Jelert, with Coleman and Young in their late 30s and Dixon still in the early stages of his career.

Patterson, meanwhile, has struggled with injuries since arriving from Rangers in January 2022 and it is telling that the Toffees had to play midfielder James Garner at right-back on a few occasions this season.

Jelert’s ability to play at left-back also makes him an interesting target for the Goodison Park outfit, who have seen Vitalii Mykolenko also have his share fair share of niggles.

The Dane has made a slow start to life in Turkey, with five of his seven Super Lig appearances coming from the bench.

One, though, would be wrong to write him off as he could soon forge a career in England and perhaps at Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium.

In other Everton news, Asmir Begovic has hit back at this pundit over his criticism of a “world-class” Toffees teammate.
