Dominic Calvert-Lewin wows with ‘unbelievable’ moment in Everton clash v Ipswich Town

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has left Lee Hendrie blown away and baffled with an “unbelievable” moment in the first half of the clash between Everton and Ipswich Town.

Sean Dyche’s side headed into the break 2-0 up at Portman Road on Saturday (19 October) thanks to goals from both Iliman Ndiaye and Michael Keane in the opening 45 minutes.

While the Toffees impressed going forward in the first half, Sky Sports pundit Hendrie felt Calvert-Lewin should have broken the deadlock earlier when he spurned an excellent chance in a chaotic start to the contest.

Speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday (19 October, 15:23) he said: “Unbelievable honestly, I’ve seen two massive chances.

“This the second one of the game which has just fallen moments ago where Calvert-Lewin really puts a press on to Woolfenden, picks his pocket and all he’s got to do is beat Muric in goal.

“He just drags it and it comes off the goalkeepers’ legs and out for a corner.”

What has happened to Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin at Goodison Park?

That miss early on in the delayed first half at Portman Road summed up Calvert-Lewin’s season so far at Goodison Park. The striker pressed excellently to win back possession but never looked like beating Arijaent Muric.

Other strikers in the Premier League wouldn’t have even needed to look up to slot the ball under the onrushing keeper. However, in those scenarios, the Toffees frontman seems to lack the composure or confidence required.

Of course, Calvert-Lewin is worth so much more to Dyche’s side than just his goals but it is beginning to feel like the Toffees would be well clear of the relegation zone if they just had that clinical edge in the final third.

Hopefully, that miss won’t come back to bite the Blues later on down the line. They’ve let leads slip already this season and while they have seemed relatively in control against the Tractor Boys, they cannot afford to become complacent.
