Alan Shearer shares ‘sensational’ Michael Keane verdict after Everton win v Ipswich Town

Alan Shearer was blown away by Michael Keane’s performance as Everton claimed a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town on Saturday (19 October).

The 31-year-old centre-back doubled the Toffees’ lead at Portman Road, scoring from a narrow angle to beat Arijanet Muric at his near post and send the away section into jubilation.

While Keane has been heavily criticised for many of his performances so far this season, filling in for the absent Jarrad Branthwaite, he has deservedly been given his flowers after his most recent display.

Writing via the Premier League website, Shearer said: “Produced a sensational finish for his goal and contributed to a second consecutive clean sheet for Everton.”

Michael Keane to keep Everton starting XI spot v Fulham?

If Branthwaite remains unavailable for the trip to Craven Cottage on Saturday 26 October, at least Dyche will be safe in the knowledge that Keane has turned a corner at Goodison Park.

The 31-year-old started just four Premier League matches last season, with Branthwaite and James Tarkowski deputising in front of Jordan Pickford, but there have been far more issues this term.

He has already scored as many goals this season as he has in his past two league seasons on Merseyside, also notching against Bournemouth back in August.

The Toffees are now five points away from the relegation zone, having won eight points from their last four games, and while this is nowhere near safety just yet, Dyche is well on his way to getting his team out of danger.

Matches against Fulham, Southampton and West Ham are now crucial before the club heads into the hectic Christmas period.
