Everton perfect choice for Jose Mourinho after what he said following Man United draw

Everton could be the perfect destination for Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho after his revelation following the Europa League draw against Manchester United.

The Friedkin Group are reportedly considering ending Sean Dyche’s tenure at the Blues once the proposed takeover is complete and Mourinho has been touted on a long list of potential replacements.

While Goodison News revealed earlier this month the reports linking Mourinho to the Goodison Park helm were non-substantial, his latest comments in the aftermath of Fenerbahce’s draw against Manchester United [Thursday, 24 October] have sparked life into claims of a Premier League return.

He said, as per The Guardian’s Ed Aarons via X [24 October]: “I think the best thing I have to do when I leave Fenerbahce is go to a club that doesn’t play in Europe. So if any club in England at the bottom of the table needs a manager…”

However, after his controversial dismissal as AS Roma boss under Dan Friedkin, the Toffees would have to bend mountains to appoint ‘The Special One’ on Merseyside.

Everton will have obstacles to overcome to appoint Jose Mourinho

The relationship between Friedkin and Mourinho has seemingly been severed beyond repair, with the 61-year-old claiming the owner “knows little about football”.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo [11 June], serial trophy-winning boss Mourinho tore into his former employers only a month after he was sacked in Rome in February.

“The European competitions are about to begin, in particular the Champions League, perhaps the world’s most important competition on the calendar,” he said.

“I won’t be there at these final stages, not because I have already been eliminated, but because I was ‘eliminated’ by someone who knows little about football. That’s life, full of ups and downs, and I’m growing, despite the unexpected and unfair dismissal.”

Mourinho may be willing to commit to his fourth Premier League side after stints with Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham, but it will take a lot of grovelling from Friedkin for that club to be Everton.

Dyche, on the other hand, has enjoyed a remarkable turnaround at Goodison Park – the 2-0 win against Ipswich Town marked a four-match unbeaten run in the Premier League.

His long-term future at the Blues is not lost. Friedkin is open to potentially extending his contract [TEAMtalk] should the side continue on this upward trajectory.

There will certainly be twists and turns along the way this season but for now, it is safe to say Mourinho will not be heading to Goodison Park unless the Friedkins intend to swallow their pride.
