Newcastle want Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer from Everton after summer talks

Newcastle would be “very interested” in signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer from Everton, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via their website on 24 October that the striker is ready to consider offers to leave the club, although he is not actively looking to depart, and the Magpies are admirers who would definitely be in the market to sign him in the summer when his current contract expires.

He has been offered a “lucrative” new deal from the Toffees but has resisted signing one previously thanks to the uncertainty around the ownership of Farhad Moshiri [The Times, 19 July].

Calvert-Lewin, 27, previously held talks with Newcastle in the previous transfer window amid an attempted double deal with Yakuba Minteh going the other way [Daily Mail, 22 June] but the move collapsed.

Dan Friedkin takeover may bring Everton contract breakthrough

Eddie Howe’s side have long been linked with the Toffees number nine so if he was about to hit the open market it would make sense for them to be in the mix to snap him up.

It appeared that they were about to complete their lengthy pursuit in the summer and ultimately failed to do so, which might have indicated waining interest, but it appears they are still keen.

The Friedkin Group’s takeover from Moshiri is expected to go through in the next couple of months which seems like being a crucial step in getting Calvert-Lewin’s extension signed, so a free transfer exit may become a moot point long before it happens.

But if the new American owners arrive and aren’t able to quickly get their new top striker locked down it might be a sign that an exit is more likely.

Howe could look to bring Calvert-Lewin to Newcastle

Whether Newcastle or any of the other Premier League sides who had some interest in the summer, including Manchester United, West Ham [Liverpool Echo, 14 August] and also Chelsea [The Athletic, 27 August], who have loaned Armando Broja to Goodison Park this term, even get a chance to pick up him remains to be seen.

Foreign clubs would be allowed to begin discussing a summer move from January, and Juventus are already sniffing about ahead of the winter market opening [Corriere dello Sport, 13 October].

Losing him in the middle of the current campaign would be a major blow to Sean Dyche’s side, but at the end of the season it may not be the manager’s concern by then.
