Everton warned of huge risk amid Dominic Calvert-Lewin transfer latest
Ian Croll believes Everton will be taking a “huge risk” if they let go of Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January transfer window.
The Englishman’s future at Goodison Park has been subject to speculation in recent weeks, with several clubs interested in acquiring his services in the coming months [TEAMtalk, 25 October].
Sean Dyche has relied heavily on the 27-year-old once again this season, with Beto mainly a backup, and sharing his thoughts on X [29 October], Croll argued the Toffees have to keep hold of him and risk letting him leave for free next summer instead.
“Huge risk to let him go in January unless someone else steps up to the plate,” the Liverpool Echo journalist said.
“Despite the question marks over his goalscoring attributes, he is still integral to how Dyche wants to play.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin main striker at Everton
It’s not like Everton are blessed with talent in the number nine position to even consider letting go of Calvert-Lewin in January.
As a result, it will not be surprising to see the Friedkin Group come in and work on renewing the England international’s contract, which expires in 2025, as soon as possible.
The 27-year-old signed for the Blues in 2016 from Sheffield United and has since gone on to develop and prove his talent in the Premier League.
Calvert-Lewin’s time at the club has been marred by injuries, but the striker seems to have thankfully gotten over those issues, starting in every league game for the Toffees in the current campaign.
The Englishman’s numbers haven’t been the best in recent years, but despite only scoring two goals this season, he is the only player Dyche can rely on in the number nine position.

Beto came on and scored in stoppage time for the Blues in the 1-1 draw against Fulham, but the former Udinese striker will have to do more to pip Calvert-Lewin in the pecking order.
Everton may lose Everton for nothing next summer, but the risk of dropping into the Championship should he be sold in January far outweighs that.
In other Everton news, Dyche admitted that he wanted to keep one player who made a big impact in the Blues’ draw with Fulham.
