Sean Dyche sack verdict ‘Crazy’ at Everton after recent developments
Ian Croll believes Everton would be crazy to sack Sean Dyche right now with The Friedkin Group yet to be officially confirmed as new owners.
Southampton hosted the Toffees on 2 November in the Premier League, and a 1-0 loss to Russell Martin’s team led to questions being raised on the future of Dyche in the Goodison dugout.
After the defeat to Saints, the Blues are just four points above the relegation zone, but speaking on the Royal Blue podcast [6 November], Croll feels there isn’t a structure in place at the club to oversee a managerial change.
“I’m not his biggest fan, but I’m realistic. We’re all hurting, we’re all annoyed, we know this is unacceptable,” he said.
“Although I do see the countdown to Dyche’s Everton career coming to an end sooner rather than later if things carry on the way they’re going, I think sacking him now would be a little bit crazy.
“There’s no plan in place. There’s no owner. The new owner is not in the place already to do so.”
Sean Dyche not a winning manager for Everton
Dyche has built a reputation for himself over the years after helping Burnley survive several seasons in the Premier League and getting them into the Europa League.
When the Toffees were hovering around the relegation zone last year, it wasn’t surprising to see the Englishman being appointed in the dugout.
The 53-year-old helped the Blues survive the drop, and even with the points deductions, he comfortably kept them up in the league.
But the Goodison faithful want to see the team making progress, and Dyche has been unable to take the team forward this season.
While the Englishman is entirely capable of making sure that Everton don’t go down to the Championship, a club of the Toffees’ stature deserves more.
It has been suggested that the new owners may not be keen on Dyche’s style of play [Liverpool Echo, 4 November], and even if they hold onto their Premier League status by the end of the season, he does not feel like the right fit to take the Blues into a new era.
