Paul Merson reacts to West Ham United v Everton shocker live on Sky Sports
Paul Merson couldn’t believe what he was watching live on Sky Sports as Everton and West Ham United played out a 0-0 “shocker” on Saturday.
The Blues travelled to the London Stadium with the opposition managers under increasing pressure to overturn the results at their respective clubs and leave with a share of the spoils.
Jarrod Bowen and Jesper Lindstrom spurned half-opportunities for the sides in the second half as Merson offered his blunt verdict on the proceedings live on Sky Sports [9 November, 4:11pm].
He said: “This is a shocker. It’s a shocker. Yeah, it’s 0-0, Bowen just got the better of Branthwaite, he run away with the ball, he’s had a shot [that] hit Tarkowksi [and] goes out for a corner.
“Well cleared by Everton [then] up the other end, Calvert-Lewin cross [for] Lindstrom, it’s behind him he heads it just wide but it’s still 0-0, not a lot in this game at all.”
Everton lacked a spark against West Ham United
Sean Dyche will return to Goodison Park unaware of whether a draw will be enough to secure his future heading into the international break.
The Toffees were the better of the two sides at the London Stadium but the abysmal form on the road continued as the visitors failed to capitalise on several goalscoring opportunities.
Abdoulaye Doucoure spurned the Blues’ best chance in the first half, he was played through on goal following a swift counterattack but dallied before taking his shot, allowing Crysencio Summerville to land a last-ditch block.
Summerville was gifted an equally important moment for the hosts in the second half but his effort flew past Jordan Pickford and the woodwork came to Everton’s rescue.

Dwight McNeil proved to be a huge miss for Everton and the supporters will be left wondering how different the scoreline could have been with the 24-year-old on the pitch in East London.
Regardless, a draw is not the worst result in the world for the Toffees and should allow Dyche the time to reassess the situation throughout the international break, but he would be foolish to think his future is now secure.
