Everton can appoint Thomas Frank from Brentford as new move mooted live on air
Everton can still attract the majority of managers currently employed at fellow Premier League clubs, according to Jamie O’Hara.
Speaking on talkSPORT (9 November, 5:41pm), O’Hara said the Toffees remain one of the biggest teams in the top flight and should be much higher up in the table given their historic achievements.
While not arguing for the sacking of Sean Dyche, O’Hara urged the Blues to hire an in-work manager from another Premier League club, such as Brentford’s Thomas Frank, as his eventual replacement.
O’Hara said: “They’re one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, and they are down at the bottom – every season we’re having the same conversation.
“Take a risk. Get someone different, try something new. Outside probably the top seven, top eight clubs, Everton can nick everyone else’s manager.
“They can nick Gary O’Neil, they can nick Kieran McKenna – if it’s a good manager you can nick him, it’s Everton. Thomas Frank, you can nick him from Brentford.”
Everton must strike gold with eventual Sean Dyche replacement
For the remit he’s been set, Dyche is likely right on target when it comes to the Toffees’ goals this season – stay in the Premier League at all costs, and pave the way for the new era next summer.
That new era is set to get underway in a matter of weeks as Dan Friedkin’s slow-moving takeover grows closer to completion, and will truly be upon the club once they relocate to Bramley-Moore Dock.
With Dyche out of contract in 2025, coinciding with the stadium move, it remains to be seen if Friedkin will make a change to take the club in a new direction – and all the signs point towards that being a yes.
O’Hara’s comments came on the same day the Blues drew 0-0 at the London Stadium, against a West Ham side learning the hard way that Julen Lopetegui was far from an ideal David Moyes replacement.
The likes of Frank, Maurizio Sarri and Jose Mourinho may have been mooted, but regardless of who is leading a new-look Toffees team next season, their expectations are expected to go through the roof.
