Jarrad Branthwaite update drops for Everton as he misses England training
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is working indoors as the England squad trains at St George’s Park ahead of their Nations League fixtures.
The 22-year-old was called up to the senior squad for their games against Greece and Ireland after several players withdrew from Lee Carsley’s squad.
Writing on his official X account [12 November], Henry Winter confirmed the centre-back’s absence from training, with Liverpool’s Jarell Quansah replacing the Toffees’ star for the session.
“Jarrad Branthwaite is working indoors, while defender Jarell Quansah has joined Lee Carsley’s squad for this session.”
Everton need to be careful with Jarrad Branthwaite
Branthwaite is one of the most influential players at Everton, and it would be prudent of the club to ensure that the defender doesn’t pick up any fitness issues during the international break.
The 22-year-old has missed a massive chunk of the season due to injury and made just his second start of the campaign for the Blues in the Premier League in the 0-0 draw against West Ham on 9 November.
Surprisingly, Everton have allowed such a valuable asset to join England, considering they’ve been cautious about playing him in recent weeks.
Sean Dyche lost the first four fixtures of the 2024/25 season in the Goodison dugout, and a significant factor was the absence of Branthwaite.
The Toffees got their first league win of the season when the 22-year-old started against Crystal Palace on 28 September.
Since then, the Englishman has been in and out of the team and fans have wondered why Dyche hasn’t played him more.
While Branthwaite will arguably be delighted to be a part of England’s senior squad, the Blues supporters hope the defender doesn’t pick up a knock before the end of the international break.
