Everton takeover excitement builds as Alan Myers shares what he’s been told
Everton fans will be hoping an early Christmas present comes their way after Alan Myers shared an update on the club’s takeover.
Myers posted on X (20 November) in reply to a question asking when Dan Friedkin’s takeover would be set in stone at Goodison, stating that a mid-December date was expected from what he’s been told.
Friedkin agreed a deal to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent stake in the club back in September, but his takeover is yet to be ratified with disputes involving previous front-runners 777 Partners still to be solved [Josimar, 18 November].
Despite this, Myers’ update implies that the takeover remains on course for completion by the end of next month, heightening the excitement as the Toffees prepare to enter a new era in 2025.
Dan Friedkin era needs to hit the ground running at Everton
A mid-December date for Friedkin to finally take the reins at Goodison doesn’t give the American long to prepare for a potentially decisive January transfer window, where a big impact will be expected.
Should the Blues’ results this season – two wins, four draws and five losses – continue on a similar trend into the new year, reinforcements in certain positions will certainly be needed to strengthen their cause.
While the summer of 2025 is set to be one of the most transitional in the club’s history – their relocation to Bramley-Moore Dock coinciding with Sean Dyche’s contract ending – the first months are also crucial.
If offered, Dyche certainly won’t say no to further assistance in January, but it remains to be seen just how much Friedkin will be willing to spend given the Blues’ still-precarious financial situation.
Getting fans onside should be near the top of the American’s list of priorities though, and in order to do so, a January window which all-but guarantees the Toffees’ Premier League safety should be paramount.
In other Everton news, the Toffees are facing a January transfer decision with one on-loan youngster currently out of favour.
