Alan Stubbs shares Sean Dyche Everton sack verdict after Brentford stalemate

Alan Stubbs doesn’t believe Sean Dyche will keep his job as Everton boss next season and thinks the Toffees need a “clean slate” by the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Dyche has been under severe scrutiny this season due to the Toffees’ lacklustre performances and they played out a goalless draw with the 10-man Bees on Saturday (23 November).

Everton legend Stubbs was asked by BBC Sport (23 November), whether he thinks Dyche – whose contract expires in June 2025 – will still be in the Toffees hot seat next season.

“I personally don’t think so, the end of the season needs to be a clean slate for whoever is coming in,” he said.

Sean Dyche has a lot of making-up to do at Everton

Since the start of the season, when Everton failed to win in their first five Premier League games, fans have been questioning whether Dyche is the right man to lead the team forward.

The former Burnley boss has a very specific way of playing, and without players such as Dwight McNeil and Iliman Ndiaye this season, things would have been a lot worse.

The fact that Everton are in the middle of a takeover process is likely one of the main reasons why he’s still in a job.

The entire process has been a very long and drawn out and with everything still going smoothly, it likely won’t be long until decisions are made at Goodison Park.

Dyche’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season and while fans may not want The Friedkin Group to stick by the Englishman, it could be the best course of action.

Sticking with him would allow the former Burnley boss to see out his Goodison Park stint and wouldn’t end up costing the club anything compensation-wise.

Only time will tell what the future holds for the 53-year-old but if the reactions of fans are anything to go off, his days are numbered.
