Lineker told to leave MOTD now as he causes outrage over Everton v Brentford
Gary Lineker felt Christian Norgaard shouldn’t have received a red card in the game between Everton and Brentford – but Barry Glendenning and Max Rushden disagree.
The 30-year-old was sent off after his challenge on Jordan Pickford in the 41st minute as the Toffees and the Bees played out a 0-0 draw at Goodison.
On Match of the Day [23 November], Lineker felt Chris Kavanagh made a “ludicrous” decision to hand Norgaard his marching orders late in the first half.
But speaking on talkSPORT [24 November, 11:40am], there was a disagreement regarding the 63-year-old’s comments about the red card.
Glendenning said: “Norgaard’s red card was a red card. But everyone on MOTD thinks it wasn’t a red card, and that’s outrageous.”
Rushden responded: “They’re mad. It’s about time they got rid of that host on MOTD if that’s his opinion.”
Glendenning added: “If he thinks that’s not a red card, he should leave at the end of the season.”
Christian Norgaard sending off right in Everton v Brentford
While some might argue that the Brentford captain was going for the ball, he caught Pickford right below the knee with his studs.
It doesn’t matter whether the Denmark international intended to hurt the Toffees’ goalkeeper or not, his challenge was reckless and dangerous.
Pickford has been one of the most influential players at the Blues over the last few years, and it’s safe to argue that the Goodison faithful could’ve been seeing their team in the Championship had it not been for the England international.
The 30-year-old proved once again against Thomas Frank’s team that he’s critical to Everton’s prospects, and his shot-stopping ability was on show in the 0-0 draw against West Ham on 9 November.

With the one-man advantage, the Goodison faithful had every right to expect their team to push forward and get the three points, but unfortunately, they failed to do so.
Sean Dyche has been lucky to have things going his way in recent weeks, but if there’s no improvement in sight, which is what it looks like, the former Burnley head coach should consider his days numbered.
