Everton manager Sean Dyche in firing line amid ‘abysmal’ development

Michael Ball has fired shots at Sean Dyche and his management of Everton amid the club’s recent performances.

The Englishman’s tactics have left the former Toffees left-back confused as there seems to be no cohesive plan.

After the 0-0 draw against Brentford on 23 November, the Toffees have failed to find the back of the net in three games.

Ball told the Liverpool Echo: “For Everton, that’s pathetic, that’s abysmal.

“Sean Dyche’s press conferences, both before and after games, have left me scratching my head in terms of the way he’s been argumentative to reporters but the questions they’re asking are only what everyone else is thinking.

“All we do is try and play the long ball, huff and puff, hope for knock downs and if our set-pieces are good, we might nick a goal. Our set-pieces were poor against Brentford, and they worked last season, teams are getting wise to us.”

Everton need a managerial change after the takeover

Dyche embodies the resilient, defensive-minded manager who thrives in scenarios where survival is the primary goal.

His tenure at Burnley showcased his ability to keep teams in the Premier League against the odds, often with limited resources, using a pragmatic and hard-working approach.

At Everton, this has translated into a style focused on direct play, physicality and set-piece reliance, which has been effective for maintaining their top-flight status through financial adversities and points deductions.

However, this method lacks the flair or attacking innovation necessary for significant progress or to compete with the league’s elite.

For the club to aspire beyond mere survival and challenge for higher positions or trophies, a shift towards a more progressive, attacking philosophy is needed after the takeover.

The incoming ownership, presumably with an eye on long-term success, should consider a managerial change to someone who can introduce a different style of football and can make the players better.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have now been named contenders to sign an attacker they wanted to secure in the summer.
