Jarrad Branthwaite risk emerges at Everton ahead of January transfer window

Everton are taking a risk with the future of Jarrad Branthwaite as they edge closer to January, Dan Plumley has said.

It was recently reported that the Toffees cannot afford to offer the defender a new contract, with clubs circling ahead of January [Sami Mokbel].

Plumley, a football finance expert, admits that Branthwaite would likely be the centre of attention in the transfer window regardless of his contract situation at Goodison Park.

“The realistic position on Everton is that most people and fans will be aware that this is some of the risk built in,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“Even if this takeover would have been done and dusted in a couple of weeks, there’s still a fairly likely possibility that clubs come in and look at Branthwaite in January.

That is always going to be heightened by reports that they can’t afford a new contract and he is going to be one who is centre of attention in the next window, I’m sure.

Jarrad Branthwaite to leave Everton?

Not to dig up hold ground too much, but that situation is not just reflective of where the takeover is right now, it is reflective of years and years of really poor financial management by the club and some of the decisions that were made.

You have to look at the bigger picture here, but I certainly would subscribe to the view that it’s a risk, it’s a risk that’s there for all the players but you’re looking at your star performers and the ones that have got potential moving forward and Branthwaite is top of that list.”

It has been suggested that impending new owner Dan Friedkin could use the promise of a new manager to get Branthwaite to stay [Graeme Bailey].

That would mean an exit for Sean Dyche, who may be the victim of the exit door soon, rather than run the risk of losing the England international within weeks.

In other Everton news, Farhad Moshiri’s stance on sacking Dyche has been revealed.
