Sam Allardyce moots ‘devastating’ Everton scenario as relegation prediction made
Everton being relegated before their stadium move to Bramley-Moore Dock would be “devastating” for the club, Sam Allardyce has said.
Speaking on No Tippy Tappy Football with Steve Round (3 December), Allardyce said the new Everton Stadium will be “magnificent” for the club, provided they stay in the Premier League this season.
Recognising that the Toffees haven’t been relegated from the top flight for over 70 years, their former boss backed Sean Dyche to keep them up despite a difficult start to the campaign.
After Round praised the club’s “soul” and “heartbeat”, Allardyce added: “And [they’ve] got a new stadium, it’s magnificent – if they stay up.
“I think they will – I think they’ve just got enough – because it would be devastating for them to go down to that new stadium having got relegated for the first time ever, is that right?”
Everton relegation would make Sam Allardyce era look like glory days
Despite the Toffees’ current plight – seemingly nailed to the lower reaches of the Premier League with a downtrodden fanbase wondering how many more blows they can take – things are finally looking up.
The club’s new stadium move is expected to be transformational in terms of both off-field finances and fortunes on the pitch, providing a best-in class venue which can massively elevate the club’s standing.

With Dan Friedkin’s takeover likely to be greenlit this month [Alan Myers, 20 November], supporters will be hoping an injection of stability, optimism, and most importantly, money, can turn their season around.
Allardyce’s backing of Dyche to keep his team afloat this season is hardly surprising, but it’s worth noting that when the now 70-year-old left Goodison Park, the Blues were eighth in the table.
Those heights seem nothing more than a dream based on what’s been on display so far this season, but Friedkin’s arrival and their new stadium will provide a boost which is desperately needed on Merseyside.
In other Everton news, one former Blues player has proposed a radical solution to fix the current squad’s lack of “accountability”.
