Everton exit timeline for Sean Dyche emerges after shock Goodison development

Alex Crook believes Everton could stick with Sean Dyche until the end of the season after the shock 4-0 win against Wolves at Goodison Park.

The Blues ended a five-match winless streak in remarkable fashion on Wednesday [4 December] as Ashley Young and Orel Mangala opened the scoring for the hosts before two Craig Dawson own goals put the game to bed at Goodison Park.

Dyche’s future on Merseyside remains uncertain after the victory, but Crook shared his verdict on the Premier League All Access podcast [5 December, 18:36] and believes the Toffees could complete a massive U-turn and stick with Dyche until the end of the current campaign before letting him leave at the end of his contract.

He said: “It’s a victory that keeps the wolf from the door for a bit longer, isn’t it? Because they’re five points clear now of the relegation places and you look at the teams below them, I think Everton will be okay with or without Dyche.

“And they might decide, actually, this season Dyche is the best man just to make sure they stay in the Premier League and then maybe look to make a change in the summer to move into that fantastic new facility.”

Everton should play it by ear with Sean Dyche

While one impressive victory will not define how the season pans out for Everton, Dyche’s “bouncebackability” from a 4-0 defeat to a 4-0 victory certainly places his side in good stead heading into the clash against Liverpool on Saturday [7 December].

The upcoming Merseyside derby will be the final one played at Goodison Park and a historic occasion for the Blues.

Furthermore, Dyche can pull further away from the relegation zone and throw a spanner into Liverpool’s title aspirations with a victory on the weekend – what a way Merseyside send off that would be for Goodison Park.

The L4 farewell tour has hardly gone according to plan thus far, and as it has become expected, Dyche will be relieved from his duties before the end of the season once The Friedkin Group completes the proposed takeover – the stance on the 53-year-old could be subject to change.

Dan Friedkin will undoubtedly wish to scout the options for a long-term successor before making a decision to ensure he starts his era on Merseyside on the right footing.

Therefore, barring a real threat of relegation, Dyche could be asked to see out his duties for one last hurrah at Goodison Park before all parties part ways on amicable terms, but this, of course, will be entirely dependent on who is viewed as the ideal replacement.

David Moyes has been touted with a sensational return to Everton – however, the former West Ham boss is eager to return to management soon and may not be available in the summer.

Either way, until TFG is through the door on Merseyside, no decision on Dyche will be made, but leaving the boss in charge to complete another survival job may be the smartest option for Everton.
