Everton takeover: BBC journalist responds as Friedkins completion mooted today

Giulia Bould has squashed any rumours of the Friedkin Group being announced as new Everton owners on Wednesday.

The Friedkins are reportedly set to complete their purchase of the Toffees from Farhad Moshiri before the end of 2024 [Alan Myers], though some have suggested that it could be announced much sooner.

This will end Moshiri’s near-three-year reign at Goodison Park, having increased his minority ownership to 94.1 per cent in January 2022 [BBC Sport], with fans rather excited for the future.

Replying to a fan’s message via X [11 December], asking if the takeover could be completed today, Bould simply replied: “No.”

Everton sale nearing completion as Friedkin Group set for takeover

Evertonians are clearly getting a little ahead of themselves as rumours begin to circulate, but nobody can really blame them as Moshiri’s current reign looks to be coming to a close.

The chapter under the current owner has been pretty abysmal, with the team having to escape the threat of relegation on multiple occasions while off-pitch matters have been just as bad.

Thanks to the club’s financial situation, the team were docked eight points in total by the Premier League season, and without Sean Dyche’s intervention, things could have been a lot worse.

The Friedkins represent a new era, a new start for the Toffees on Merseyside, with a new stadium on the horizon and an influx of cash likely to come with the new owners.

Of course, Dyche and his team still need to worry about matters on the pitch as the Friedkins will not want to be greeted with the shock of Championship football upon arriving in Liverpool.

Given the team’s form so far this season, Dyche’s job is also on the line, and rightly so, with the Toffees only picking up three wins from their first 14 matches of the Premier League campaign.
