Jordan Pickford targeted by Arsenal fans during Everton draw

Jordan Pickford was targeted in the Everton goal with chants by the Arsenal fans during the clash at the Emirates.

The Blues travelled to North London on Saturday [14 December] after a week-and-a-half’s hiatus from Premier League football following the postponement of the Merseyside derby last weekend.

However, the enforced break appeared to work in the Toffees’ favour as they held Arsenal to goalless contest at the Emirates, leading to the home support to taunt Pickford.

As relayed by BBC Sport reporter Shamoon Hafez [14 December, 3:15pm] the Arsenal fans chanted, “You’re just a **** Aaron Ramsdale” towards the 30-year-old, with the away support replying with: “England’s, number one, England’s, England’s number one.”

Everton survive the Arsenal pressure at Emirates Stadium

All the attention heading into the clash in North London centred around the set-piece prowess of both sides, but none would have envisioned a bore draw.

Sean Dyche will be all too pleased with how the game panned out; of course, a victory would have been the ideal end to a perfect couple of weeks at Goodison Park, but the Blues will view this result as one point gained rather than two points lost.

The Friedkin Group finally received Premier League approval to proceed with the takeover of the Toffees [Alan Myers], and for the first time in a long time, it’s all smiles on the blue half of Merseyside.

Indeed, Arsenal dominated the contest, but the breakthrough alluded Mikel Arteta’s side.

Furthermore, Nicolas Jover will have to return to the drawing board as eight corners for the hosts yielded no rewards.

Pickford is notorious for his antics on the pitch and the chants from the Gunners faithful will undoubtedly have fuelled the shot-stopper to keep the Arsenal attack at bay.

The England number one is by far one of the most consistent performers at Goodison Park, but has not escaped scrutiny this season – still, he has silenced the doubters in resounding fashion with a clean sheet at the Emirates.
