Moyes tipped for shock Everton return after Friday news – Henry Winter Exclusive

Everton could replace Sean Dyche with former manager David Moyes when the Friedkin Group completes their takeover, according to Henry Winter.

The former Burnley manager is under intense scrutiny at Goodison Park with the club currently in 15th in the league, five points above the relegation zone.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News [13 December], Winter admitted that while a move for the 61-year-old would be shocking, it is not beyond the realm of possibility, saying: “If you look at when the Friedkin Group took over Roma four years ago, they continued with Fonseca then Mourinho came in the summer.

“The focus is going to be on Sean Dyche, whether he stays, a lot of the fans are against him but who will they get in at short notice?

“A return for David Moyes? That would be a surprise but anything is possible in football.”

Could Moyes really return to Everton?

The Scottish manager was in the dugout at Goodison for 11 years and three months and his reign was quite successful.

His Blues sides regularly finished in the top eight and he led the club into the Champions League qualification stages with a fourth-placed finish in the league in 2005 and an FA Cup final in 2009.

He failed when replacing Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but overachieved in two stints at West Ham winning the UEFA Conference League in 2023.

With the severe pressure on Dyche, the Friedkins might decide to bring the Scot back due to his history with the club and his relationship with the fans.

It would be a surreal moment if Moyes was in charge for the Blues final match at Goodison Park and to lead the club into their new Bramley Moore-Dock Stadium.

In other Everton news, a potential January signing could save Dyche from the sack.
