Everton transfer window verdict shared after latest Friedkin Group developments

Giulia Bould doesn’t think there will be “massive amounts of business” happening at Everton in the January transfer window despite The Friedkin Group’s takeover.

On Thursday, Everton’s takeover was finalised after what felt like a rather long and drawn-out process.

While no plans for the upcoming transfer window have come directly from the horse’s mouth, most believe that Everton will do some sort of business but not as much as fans would likely hope for.

Writing for the BBC Sport website (19 December), BBC Merseyside journalist Bould shared why January isn’t likely to be too busy for the Toffees.

“So the transfer window reopens on the 1 January, I wouldn’t expect massive amounts of business because of PSR [profit and sustainability rules] and that’s the Premier League’s rules so you’ve got to stay within your threshold,” she wrote.

“However, The Freidkin Group’s vision for Everton reads as follows – ‘Strengthening the men’s first team squad through thoughtful and strategic investment’.

“They are going to have meetings now with Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell, who is the director of football, and they’re going to work very closely with them so I wouldn’t expect too many changes at Everton.”

Sean Dyche needs to make some sort of additions to his Everton squad

Although not an awful lot of changes are expected to be made at Everton in the January window, it feels like Sean Dyche could do with some sort of reinforcement across the board to help the Merseyside outfit avoid being dragged into another relegation battle.

The Toffees currently sit 15th in the Premier League table and while they’re not yet directly involved in the relegation battle, Dyche’s men are only three points adrift of the drop zone which is far from ideal.

The summer window was an interesting one for Everton as players such as Iliman Ndiaye have taken like a fish to water and instantly improved the team.

But then others such as Jake O’Brien have hardly been given a chance to prove their worth, and, with the recent rumours of Michael Keane among others potentially exiting Goodison Park upon the end of his contract this season, it feels like some future-proofing is needed.

Only time will tell what the future holds for Everton but as the Friedkin’s have come in just before the window opens, surely that means some additions will be made, even if PSR does have a say in the moves they make.
