TFG to bring ‘considerable investment’ to Everton after £850m financial news

Andy Dunn expects The Friedkin Group to bring “considerable investment” to Everton after the completion of the takeover.

The American consortium completed the long-awaited Toffees takeover on Thursday [19 December] and are wasting no time exerting their authority on Merseyside with a decision believed to have already been made on the future of Sean Dyche [iNews].

However, the Blues’ financial woes have been well-documented in recent years and with financial stability high on the agenda of priorities on Merseyside, Dunn used a £850 million benchmark writing in the Sunday Mirror [22 December, pg 65] to explain how TFG plan to steady the ship.

Writing: “There are no raised eyebrows at grand old Everton being part of a billionaire’s ‘portfolio’ or, as Friedkin recently described it to disgruntled Roma supporters, a ‘multi-club symbosis’.

“And why would there be? If nothing else, all the signs are that TFG will not only bring desperately needed financial stability to the club, they will bring considerable investment.

“In less than five years of ownership in the Serie A, it is estimated TFG have put £850million into Roma. And while they have not achieved the goal of regular qualification for the Champions League, they have increased commercial revenue and, from a business point of view, are seen as sound owners.”

The Friedkin Group will start a new era at Everton

Dan Friedkin is preparing to begin his reign at Everton with a bang but first, he must balance the books before the real work begins.

Suppose TFG replicates their £850m investment in Roma on Merseyside; not only will the Blues operate without the financial constraints imposed by former majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, but in that case, Dyche should be treated with significant investment into the playing staff.

Henry Winter reported on the day of the takeover [19 December] that the “inevitable focus” of TFG will turn to sort the futures of Dyche and Kevin Thelwell.

The Blues sporting director has not escaped scrutiny this season after his summer exploits, Iliman Ndiaye and Orel Mangala are two of seven recruits who have enjoyed relative success since arriving at Goodison Park, and while the jury is still out on Armando Broja, the rest have failed to live up to the mark.

Therefore, questions are rightfully being asked of Thelwell about whether he can be trusted with the newfound fortune to identify the right additions to propel Everton towards the top half of the Premier League.

However, TFG’s main focus for the time being will be to clear the monumental debt and to ensure the Toffees move to Bramley-Moore Dock at the end of the season with their top-flight status secured.
