Shearer shares new Everton relegation verdict after what he saw in Chelsea draw

Alan Shearer believes Sean Dyche is the man to steer Everton away from the relegation zone in the Premier League.

The Blues followed up a 0-0 draw against Arsenal last weekend with an identical result against Chelsea at Goodison Park on Sunday [22 December] to extend a three-match unbeaten streak.

However, concerns remain regarding Dyche’s long-term future on Merseyside, but Shearer offered his take on the Blues boss on The Rest is Football [23 December, 12:38] and remained adamant that Dyche is the man for Everton.

He said: “I just felt that because of Sean Dyche, because of his experience and all of those things, they’ll have too much for the teams in and around them. And the most important thing for them absolutely this season that is staying up because of their new stadium next season.

“So I believe they’ll do that – they’ll be alright because of Sean Dyche.”

Sean Dyche can turn the tide at Everton

Everton are heading to the Etihad to face Manchester City on Boxing Day, brimming with confidence for the first time in a long time.

Although, it could have been a vastly different story at Goodison Park after Jordan Pickford committed a “bonkers” challenge on Malo Gusto and can consider himself fortunate his follow-through was not deemed a red card offence and a spot-kick awarded.

The Blues boast an abysmal record against the reigning Premier League champions, having not won one of the last 15 meetings, resulting in 13 losses and only two draws across all competitions.

However, Pep Guardiola suffered his third consecutive defeat in the 2-1 loss against Aston Villa on Saturday [21 December] to stretch his winless run.

Dyche could continue the “exceptional job” he has performed at the Toffees and take more points off another of the Premier League elite.

And he will need to do so – the fixture run stretching past the New Year will not get easier for Everton with this year’s surprise package Nottingham Forest following the Boxing Day clash before tricky games against Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Nevertheless, Dyche was expected to be heading to Manchester empty-handed from his last two contests and proved his doubters wrong – he has the perfect opportunity to send a statement of intent to The Friedkin Group with a point or more against Manchester City.
