Newcastle United to blame for £35m+ payday miss in new Everton transfer reveal
Newcastle United might have singlehandedly blown a £37million payday for Everton and The Friedkin Group.
The new owners have done brilliantly to eradicate the high piles of debt [The Esk], which built up over time under Farhad Moshiri’s rule at Goodison Park, now wiping the slate clean.
That could be really important for the Toffees ahead of the next couple of transfer windows, especially in the summer when decisions need to be made on current loan players, such as Orel Mangala and Jack Harrison.
However, the Blues still have multiple issues to solve within the squad before the windows open, with contract talks being mooted for Jarrad Branthwaite, as per Daily Mail, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin [TEAMtalk].
While it is far more important that the former is tied down to a new contract, time is of the essence when it comes to the latter, given his current deal expires at the end of the season.
This means that Calvert-Lewin will soon be free to discuss his future with other clubs, allowing him to leave Goodison Park on a free transfer just months after nearly securing his exit with a transfer fee.

It has now been revealed, as per TEAMtalk, that Newcastle United had effectively agreed everything to sign the 28-year-old during the summer but were unable to convince him to move.
Following the collapse of Calvert-Lewin’s move to St James’ Park, Paul Joyce reported that both teams were working to find a solution, with the Toffees holding out for a £37million fee.
Now, with the player heading into the final six months of his contract and little noise about him extending his stay on Merseyside, the Toffees and TFG might have to come to terms with his free transfer instead.
The £37million could have been extremely useful for the Blues, especially given the prospect of a third points deduction still hanging over their heads [The Times], and now it is even more frustrating to know how close to deal came.
News of Everton’s failure to cash in on £37million is just rubbing salt into the wounds now. He could be leaving for free after eight-and-a-half years of being a Toffee. Ouch.
