Troy Deeney drops new Dyche sack verdict after what he saw in Man City v Everton

Troy Deeney has defended Sean Dyche after Everton picked up an unexpected point against Manchester City on Thursday.

The Toffees manager is often criticised for his “boring” style of football, conceding too many and scoring too few, but he certainly earned his flowers following a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium on 26 December.

Bernardo Silva opened the scoring before Iliman Ndiaye equalised in style as Dyche’s side frustrated the current Premier League champions in their own backyard.

Speaking via talkSPORT on Friday (27 December), Deeney said: “They always try to downplay what he’s done because his brand of football is considered boring and old-fashioned. I didn’t think it was.

“If you watch the game, he’s making his team hard to beat, he’s trying to invite better play going forward, but I just think sometimes, they can’t because work so hard defensively that they’re tired by that time.

“They need more Dwight McNeil-types, who can run all day.”

Sean Dyche to keep Everton manager job under The Friedkin Group?

It remains to be seen exactly what TFG are planning now that their takeover has been completed and officially announced, but no big changes have been made just yet.

There was a lot of talk about what Farhad Moshiri’s exit could mean for the former Burnley man, who has been struggling to keep his side above the relegation zone this season.

While there are still only three points separating the Toffees from the Premier League dropzone, recent results have been extremely promising and may have earned the respect of the new owners.

Falling down to the Championship weeks before moving into the Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium would be an absolute travesty for the Merseyside club, but it is still a possibility.

Despite this, sacking Dyche seems like an even riskier move than keeping him in charge, especially given his experiences in the division before, but TFG are not ones to shy away from a tough decision.
